Whitby is an amazing seaside town it is like going back in time.
We had dinner at this little place called The Humble Pie n mash, a tiny little place only a few tables, like 6, completely packed. The building is in the same condition it was hundreds of years ago and the people queuing up to get your table. Amazing pies. Whitby is located on the north-east coast of North Yorkshire , approximately 252 miles north of London and 20 miles north of Scarborough.
Historically the town's economy was based upon fishing, whaling.
Wandering the small cobblestone streets in the old town is like stepping back in time, you feel as if some of these little shops have been here for centuries and of course some of them have been. There are so many wonderful places to eat, predominantly seafood it is hard to choose from the fabulous variety available.
There is a wide range of local foods available, Whitby Fish, Yorkshire meats & cheeses from town shops, farm shops and farmers markets all fresh and sure to tantalise your taste buds.
Walking along the cliff we were surprised to find a lift which takes you down to the sea shore, where you can rent bathing boxes by the day or week. A bathing box in England!

Humble Pie 'n' Mash
We ate at this tiny little shop that has a history back to the 1600's when it was then a bakery. It has been used for various other activities and now once again is back to its roots. The floors and building are just as it always has been and there is only room for about 16 people at several tiny tables and the atmosphere is just magic. All the meals are served with mash, peas and gravy and amazing value for less than 5 Pounds. The pies are all freshly made daily with organic pastry and meat and absolutely delicious. The chicken pie was absolutely out of this world. |
Today we spent driving around North Yorkshire, see pics of the lovely little villages below. We
also walked from our B&B along the cliff to Whitby and we were surprised to find a lift that could take you from the cliff top down to the sea. having a great time here.

Below we drove through the Yorkshire Moors from York to Whitby on a road that the sheep own all along the way sheep are wandering everywhere great scenery. Yesterday we drove to Goathland where they film Heartbeart.
Sheep live on the side of the road and in fact on the roads on the moors and small towns. It is such a lovely place to drive around the villages are so pretty with hanging flowers in so many of them. Stopped for lunch in pub in a lovely little village Hutton-Le-Hole with sheep sitting in the middle of the village.

We are in Whitby staying at a beautiful B&B, Melrose Guest House. The couple who own it Joanne and Chris are lovely and it has everything you could want. Beautifully decorated, light, airy big rooms.
It is like staying with friends rather than a guest house. Joanne goes out of her way to help with local info, she is just lovely if you come this way make sure you include Whitby and Melrose you will love it.
Real Soap not those small bottles of generic whatever which serves as soap shampoo or conditioner!!!
Glasses to drink out of in the room, heater turned on at night to take the chill off the room, just love it best place we have stayed in England.
