Florence's bustling Central Market is a fascinating place to visit, especially for foodies. One of the oldest markets in Florence, San Lorenzo is the place to pick up the best Italian fresh produce, meat, seafood and dry goods and revel in the lively atmosphere. Inside the market are a myriad of vendors dedicated to the primary ingredients of Tuscan cuisine. Butchers of all types display everything from pig's feet to whole chickens with their heads and feet still on, to giant, milky-white sheets of tripe, rabbits, wild boar, steaks, sausages, etc. You will also find cheeses, cured meats, olives and other delicatessen fare, as well as stalls selling bread, pasta, wine and other grocery items.
Most of the vendors don't mind you having a taste of the produce, so head to the delis and ask for an "assagio" of favourites such as prosciutto or pecorino cheese. You find fun and entertaining counter staff. They gave us several free samples including some of the best prosciutto and cheese we tried on the trip. But the real jewel is the "specialty sandwich" of salami, prosciutto, cheese, tomato and balsamic vinaigrette on a roll for 6 Euros. The best and least expensive lunch we had all week.

A trip from Florence to Fiesole was a must for us when we heard about this pretty little town 15 minutes north of Florence. Aside from the sights of interest within and near Fiesole itself, on the sunny day we went the view from the Fiesolean hills out over Florence was spectacularly beautiful. We decided we would go there for lunch and the Trattoria we were lucky enough to find was superb. Graeme is still taking about his chicken in red wine risotto.
Wow, what a great find in an unbelievable location. I doubt you would find a better apartment to stay for your time in Florence. It appears as if someone with great taste lives here and has just popped out to leave you to enjoy this fabulous spacious apartment.
When we arrived this charming apartment was immaculate and is decorated beautifully thru out. It is located on the second floor with an elevator. We are overlooking the Via dei Servi, historic street that connects the Florentine Duomo to Piazza SS Annunziata.
There are two large bedrooms, one ensuite with a cute balcony overlooking a private courtyard, a fantastic living room, the kitchen is stocked with quality appliances including a dish washer, there is a huge variety of glassware and crockery. The owner has very thoughtfully left a range of coffee, tea, oils, biscuits every spice & seasoning you could ever want and so much more. We also have a washing machine /dryer & a designer bathroom with jacuzzi. The wifi is fantastic.
The apartment is metres away from the Duomo, so central for everything, sightseeing, supermarket and all other shopping. Alessandro is a perfect host. He sat with us on arrival and went through everything re the apartment then spent time explaining the best markets, local reliable restaurants, train services. He could not have been more helpful. What a way to experience Florence. This is our fifth time here and previously we have only visited for 2 or 3 days and stayed in a hotel. This time we are here for a week and we wish to live as a Florentine
shopping and coming home to relax in "our own place." The best gelati in Florence was directly opposite our front door, it was made fresh every day in front of us amazing taste.
I would recommend this apartment highly it is perfect. We have stayed in many apartments in France & Italy over the years but this would be the best yet. As you all know I do a lot of research which has really proven worthwhile
on this holiday everywhere we have stayed has been terrific.

Piazzale Michelangelo is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Florence. Perched high on a hillside overlooking the city, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of Florence's skyline. You have a clear view of a number of the city's most important landmarks, including the Duomo, Ponte Vecchio and Palazzo Vecchio. A replica of Michelangelo's Statue of David stands in the centre of the square.
The Piazzale Michelangelo is crowded year round like the rest of Florence, there are so many people taking photos of the views overlooking the city.
A large number of market stalls selling souvenirs and snacks fill the square but despite the overly touristy commercialism, the square is well worth a visit thanks to the magnificent views over the city of Florence with the Tuscan hills providing a scenic backdrop.
