Charleston is certainly worth adding to your itinerary, it is the gem of South Carolina.
Take a walk around the old part of town and see some of the most beautiful homes. Grand houses with stunning balconies have a style that are essentially unique to Charleston. It is amazing that most of these homes have survived many hurricane’s and wars.
We stayed at a Bed & Breakfast in Charleston. Our accommodation in the centre of town was perfect, warm, welcoming historic and full of Southern charm it even came with its own ghost.
Charleston also claims the first shots fired in the Civil War and the history of it is still very much part of todays Charleston and South Carolina.
Think of the movie Gone With The WInd with Clark Gable & Viviene Leigh and that sums up the graciousness of Charleston. It really is a beautiful town.
We took a tour of the Plantation Houses just outside Charleston. They are beautiful estates. Wandering around the grounds you can easily picture ladies in their long dresses walking around these plantations. Some still have the shacks where the slaves were forced to live in appalling conditions.
