Well we chose to come to Santorini for my birthday and it is just a perfect day. It has been very windy last couple of days but today is just beautiful. Calm, 28 degrees perfect what more could we ask for. We are sitting on our deck having breakfast and watching cruise ships arriving down below, just an amazing view. Last night we went with our friend Aris for a birthday dinner, tonight another one, what a place to celebrate. Thanks to everyone who sent me birthday emails. |
We feel once again we are in Paradise. We are in Santorini. We arranged our accommodation through Aris our friend with whom we booked our first trip to Santorini with in 2010, He manages an extensive portfolio of holiday properties. Because of his attention to detail and excellent service he is an amazing host. I researched for so long to find the perfect accommodation and was just so lucky to find this accommodation and him. We have become friends over the last three years and he drops in to make sure we are ok, share a wine and great conversation. We are staying with Artemis the lady we have stayed with each time only this visit we chose one of the two new rooms she has built on the opposite side of the deck. It is perfect.
A first for us in the Greek Islands. We could not believe it yesterday when we saw huge clouds over the mountains and cliff tops below us. Having spent several months over the last four years in the
islands we have never seen heavy cloud or rain. There is very little rain in this area the locals say maybe three times a year so you can imagine our delight when it actually rained last night.
This morning it is back to perfect sunshine and a slight breeze, sitting looking at the scene from our deck still amazes us.
There is something special about the Greek Islands or the islands we have visited anyway. The locals are friendly, the restaurants offer all kinds of local delicacies, prices are very reasonable, the weather is always perfect during the summer months. In Santorini you could literally sit for hours looking at the view it is so beautiful. We could not believe our eyes when we looked out over the Caldera when we were taken to our apartment the first time we came here in 2010. Santorini set on the Caldera is a scene from a post card.
There is a very relaxed style of living on these islands, one that you very quickly adapt too. Something that makes you want to come back time and time again. This is our fourth year holidaying on the Greek Islands and our third time in Santorini.
Fira the capital of Santorini is one of those traditional villages perched on the cliffs. Imerovigli, where we stay, is situated 2 km north from Fira on the lip of a higher cliff from where you can see from one side of the island to the sea on the other. A dream view from our balcony.
We love the walk between Imerovigli and Fira along the cliff top it would have to be one of the most beautiful walks in the world.
We walked this walk this morning, with the advantage of being downhill, taking photos and had lunch in Fira overlooking the view watching the cruise ships arriving. Then we actually walked
back ...... UPHILL for an hour, that's what you call walking the walk.
If you stay on Santorini it is an experience you will never forget. The beautiful villages of Fira, Oia and Imerovigli are perched on the cliffs, it is like viewing a painting. It is impossible not to be impressed with their beauty. Quaint white washed dwellings hanging on the side of the cliffs looking out to azure colored waters the scenery is breathtaking. Red geranium’s overhanging window boxes and walls and roofs covered in a variety of bright colored bougainvillea, spectacular scenery wherever you look.

Great Greek food and club sandwiches are delicious and great if you need a departure from traditional Greek food. Everyone who knows me will agree I am not adventurous when it comes to food to say the least, so this is my type of place. Great music, great cocktails and the best desserts we've ever tasted, especially the wonderful waffles which are just fantastic! Love it. |

We had lunch and dinner here and it was lovely not only because of the food but the view was stunning and the service was excellent. Fresh salads with beetroot, buffalo mozzarella and a garden salad with tomato and banana which we didn't think would work. But it was delicious along with the saganaki cheese & tomato jam, the baklava and chocolate millfeuille. |
