This is our third visit to Naoussa. We decided to stay at Hotel Christina last year because of the great reviews on Trip Advisor and the proximity to the centre. We loved it so much we are back this time for three weeks. This delightful Hotel is located in a tranquil area of the village where you walk down some steps and two minutes later you are in the village square.
Thalia, her Mum Christina and Dad Nikos the lovely family who own the hotel make you feel at home immediately. This is a real family hotel, just gorgeous and the ambience reflects this in abundance. You can feel the Greek Island atmosphere everywhere.
The rooms are in a lovely garden area with either a verandah or balcony, tradionally decorated and exceptionally clean. Our room has air conditioning, a fridge, balcony, comfortable bed and free wifi and tv (which we did not use, who needs tv in this beautiful setting) while being extremely good value for money.
So if any of you guys are looking for the "Greek Island Experience" this is the place to stay and the island that we would recommend, having visited quite a few others.
A delicious buffet style breakfast is available with home made jams, honey, fresh breads, croissants, eggs, meats, cheese, yoghurt, cake. Great value for 6 euros we could not eat lunch after our yummy breakfast. The gardens are a delight with lots of flowers and trees and places to sit including a sun terrace with great sea views.
The service and attention are first class as nothing is too much trouble for this family who lovingly care for their guests wanting them to have a good holiday and go out of their way to make it happen. Thalia can arrange pickup at airport or port for a reasonable cost, our driver was waiting when we arrived just great after a tiring trip.
There are several beaches a few minutes away, along with a great selection of restaurants, shops and small supermarkets.
Naoussa is a most beautiful area of Paros, exactly what you would imagine a typical Greek Island to be with many local friendly people wishing you Kaleemera (good morning) when exploring the streets of this gorgeous village of a morning.
It is a long way from Australia but we will be back again and again to this little piece of paradise and Thalia, Christina and Nikos. The hosts at this beautiful little hotel making us feel so like part of the family is the main reason we keep returning.

The fishing village of Naoussa is where we base ourselves on Paros. A walk around the village makes you feel as though you live there. It is not as touristy as Santorini (although we really love Santorini) and Mykonos and as you walk through the many little laneways the atmosphere is relaxing. Brightly coloured flowers add to the ambience of this spectacular village.
Sit down at a cafe by the water and watch the fisherman untangling their nets and bringing in their catch of the day, hanging up the octopus over a railing, or check out one of the bakeries for freshly made bread.
Naoussa is for us the most beautiful relaxing village and a personal favourite. Getting to know the local people and this exquisite village keeps drawing us back again and again.
To our surprise today 23rd August we arrived to find it was the Pirate Festival in Naoussa.
Celebrations happening everywhere as thousands pack the town’s small harbour and labyrinth of little streets on a day that “celebrates” the invasion, in 1537 of the pirate Barbarossa. After the re-enactment of the invasion with a fleet of torch lit fishing boats, almost needless to say, much eating, drinking and dancing follows.
We were lucky enough to find a table on the waterfront and join in this fun night wandering back to our
balcony to watch the firework display and listen to the traditional music. Wow, what a first day of our Naoussa holiday.
We were up early this morning Sunday to wander around the village before too many people were around.
We found the Old Venetian Fortress in the Old Port. It was originally constructed in the 15th Century by the Venetians. The Fortress was used as a watchtower for pirates and as a frontline for enemy attacks with its location overlooking the Aegean Sea.
Today only part of the fort survives. There are several photos in the slideshow below which show the old fort.

Wandering around the village we discovered a great place for cakes and desserts. Apparently the owner a lovely man has a great cafe in Naoussa established back in 1967. However he now has a shop selling his products as well. The almond and honey tarts and the mille feuilles are divine |
Kalypso cafe and bar on the waterfront is a great favourite for a snack, drink or coffee. Their club sandwiches would have to be among the best anywhere and they do a great greek salad. One of the reasons we enjoy dropping in there so often is the service from Vasiliki the girl who is the waitress there,a student from Athens, she is just so professional efficient and friendly. |
